AQCO c. BRIGIL — Clapets antiretour manquants
The Association for Quality in Construction in the Outaouais Region Inc. (AQCO), a non-profit association supported by ABC Avocats, is claiming $38 million for approximately 2,500 owners and tenants of BRIGIL condos built over a 20-year period, from 1996 to 2016.
According to the allegations in AQCO's application to be submitted to the court, developer BRIGIL allegedly built nearly one hundred buildings containing more than 1,000 condos without ensuring that wastewater drains were equipped with backwater valves, which are essential to prevent sewer backups.
A backwater valve is a plumbing device that prevents sewage from flowing back into a home's plumbing system during a backup. Without one, residents may face considerable damage if the municipal sewer system becomes overloaded.
In addition to developer BRIGIL, the application also names:
These parties are named for allegedly failing to meet their responsibilities and duties, including ensuring the existence of plumbing plans and specifications for these condos and performing mandatory inspections during construction.
If you own or rent a BRIGIL condo built between 1996 and 2016, you may be included in this class action. Contact AQCO to learn more about your situation.
